The following are mostly translations from foreign sources. We do not guarantee the results from these recipes, but give them for the purpose of showing our readers what their foreign competitors are doing:—
Gobelin Blue on Worsted
For 100lbs. of worsted prepare a bath with 1lb. Blue Black of Meister, Lucius, and Bruning, 1lb. Tartar. Raise to boil, enter yarn and work for one hoar, take out and drain. This bath is kept and aged again, only half a pound of black being added for each future lot. Prepare a second bath with 6oz. Acid Green, Meister, Lucius, and Bruning, 8lbs. sulphuric acid. Heat to 160-170 degrees F., enter yarn and work, then heat to boil and work to shade; lift and wash.
Sage on carpet yarn
For 100lbs. yarn, prepare a bath with 10lbs. Glaubersalt, 3½oz. Yellow SSS., 7oz extract of Indigo, 9oz. Arohil Substitute, 3lbs Sulphuric Acid. Heat to 170 degrees F., enter yarn, work for short time, then raise to boil and dye boiling for one hour; lift and wash.
Scarlet on mixed flannel (70 por cent Cotton.)
For 340lbs. dissolve separately, 6lbs. Benzopurpurine, 12lbs. Sodium Phosphate, 12lbs Potassium Carbonate, mix the solutions, heat the bath to 70 degrees C, enter the goods and work st the boil for 1½ to 2 hours when the wool and cotton will be of the same shade. For subsequent lots of 340lba. use only half the above quantities in same dye-bath.
Brown on velveteen.
For 12½ kilos., prepare a bath with with 6½ kilos, catechu dissolved in boiling water, add 1 kilo.alum. Work the velveteen in this for two hours at the boil; take out, drain, and enter into a fresh bath of 3-4 kilos. bichromate of potash; work in this at the boil till the shade is developed.
Dark maroon on worsted.
For 100lbs, prepare a bath containing 10lb. Glauber'e salts, 1lb. orange B., 1lb. acid magenta, 4lb. indigo extract. - Read Holliday and Sons. Enter the yarn at 170°F., work well while heating to the boil, work to shade. Take out, rinse a and dry.
Brown on worsted
For 100lbs., prepare a bath containing 10lbs. Glauber salts, 6oz. fast yellow, 5ozs. orange Y., 2oz. fast red, 5ozs. indigotine, 4lbs. sulphuric acid. Enter the yarn at 160°F., work while raising to boil, and then boil till shade is developed. Take out, rinse, and dry.
