(2141) Lacquer for Metal.

Manufacturer and builder 7, 1878

Water-glass would not do at all, as the soda or potash in it does no resist atmospheric influences sufficiently to protect the metal under it. A transparent varnish we would consider more reliable, but then this would have to be renewed from time to time. There is nothing more reliable than a covering with a noble metal, such at gold. They give the only surface that will resist the deteriorating action of the atmosphere for years, which no known varnish can equal.
