Some excellent madder has been grown at Flatbush L. I. by a Mr. Gilm, a Dutch gentleman. The sample is good and he states that the soil is well calculaed for this plant as that of any country in the world, and that the immense importations of this article, within a few years may, with ordinary industry, be rendered useless, by the production of an article both better and cheaper.
