When black oxydized or such of dead silver articles had to be varnished, it has hitherto not been found possible to do this in an entirely satisfactory manner. A varnish which has proved itself effective consists, according to the "Photographische Archiv," of 18 parts of alcohol, 3 parts of red arsenic, and one part of castor-oil; for especially fine articles it may be diluted with the same amount of alcohol.
