Manufacturer and builder 5, 1869
This substance forms a colorless liquid, and is at present sold in this city as a preparation for the hair, which, upon application, it turns a considerably lighter color. According to a method indicated by Schoenbein, it is prepared by shaking for a few seconds, in a large bottle, an amalgam of zinc with a small portion of distilled water. The water, by taking up oxygen from the air, is partly converted into the perozide of hydrogen, oxide of zinc being formed at the same time. The liquid thus obtained is perfectly free from acid which is so commonly found in that prepared according to other methods; it is otherwise perfectly pure, and may be kept for some time without its being decomposed.
