Maybe you think there's no connection between the age-old quest for a way to avoid mowing lawns and the jet-age hazard of birds at airports. [See "Sabger on the Runway: How Birds Cause Crashesm" PS, Nov. '63]. However: Researchers at Ontario Agricultural College have come up with a chemical spray that limiths the growth of grass; trouble is, it turns your lawn purple. Coincidentally, Royal Navy safety experts in England have suggested dyeing grass on airports purple or violet, since birds apparently avoid those colors. Worth trying? - remember, the purple airport won't need moving.
