One coat of paint, says a correspondent of the Mechanical News, takes 20 pounds of lead and 4 gallons of oil per 100 square yards; the second coat, 40 pounds of lead and 4 gallons of oil; the third, the same as the second — say 100 pounds of lead and 16 gallons of oil per 100 square yards for three coats.

One gallon of printing color covers 50 square yards,
