DYES. Can you tell me where to get unusual colors in dyes?

At least one dye manufacturer offers individuals advice on home dyeing. You may be able to find out how to mix standard colors to get the results you want. You might prefer to work with natural dyestuffs for the very reason they're not used commercially - they produce offbeat, one-of-a-kind colors. The peculiarities of individual plants give a unique quality to each dye lot. An excellent publication of the Smithsonian institution, Natural Dyes in the United States, provides complete instructions for making dyes from tree barks, flowers, leaves, nuts and berries, plus historical material on the subject. The book is fold by the Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D.C. 29492, for $3.25.
