Bleaching Dark Clothes

Popular Mechanics, lokakuu 1930

Before dyeing clothes, it is sometimes necessary to remove a darker color. This can be done easily with a solution of ordinary chloride of lime, which is a bleaching powder and can be obtained at any drug store. Make a solution consisting of about 1 oz. of the powder to 1 gal. of water. if there is plenty of time, simply soak the garment in this solution. The bleaching process can, however, be speeded up by heating the solution or by adding a few drops of sulphuric acid.
