Black Paint for the Inside of Cameras, etc.

Manufacturer and builder 7, 1869

The best paint for thlis purpose is composed of shellac dissolved in alcohol and mixed with a large proportion of lampblack. If the proportion of shellac be large, the paint will retain a glossy surface, which is very detrimental. Wheat is wanted is a smooth, dead-black surface; and this is obtained by using just enough shellac to prevent the lampblack front rubbing off, and no more. A few trials will easily enable us to determine the proper proportions, and then we shall have a paint which can not be excelled.
